About this event

Join us for our upcoming meetup around SLC DevOpsDays on Tuesday, May 16. Thank you to Front Analytics for sponsoring and hosting us. We'll open doors at 7pm and talks will start at 7:30pm.

Apache Spark + Elasticsearch

Apache Spark is a distributed batch and micro-batch formwork for data processing and analytics. Spark allows developers to build robust data systems with existing data stores and streaming technology. Elasticsearch enables search and analytical queries on data in a distributed context. Working together, Spark and Elasticsearch enable developers to create a robust Lambda Architecture, handling both streaming and batch reads and writes. In this talk I’ll walk through the benefits of this architecture and why Elasticsearch is perfect for it. I’ll also walk through how to Use Spark and elasticsearch for streaming and batch workloads.

Jowanza Joseph is a Senior Software Engineer at One Click Retail, a Business Intelligence company based out of Salt Lake City. His work focuses mostly on distributed data pipelines and data operations. Jowanza blogs often, cycles and is working on a book about Apache Spark.

How to find the venue:

We meet in person in downtown SLC just a short distance from the Gallivan Center Trax stop or on-street parking is available for ~$5.

Free street parking in the area starts at 8 PM, so it would just be $2. You can access the Blue Line Trax from Sandy Civic Center, a short drive from the Noah Events Center.

From there, attendees can get on the Trax towards Salt Lake Central. The Gallivan Plaza Station is less than a block away from the Broadway Media center.

The Blue Line leaves every 15 minutes from both directions. DevOps Days attendees can also take advantage of the sights and nightlife here in Salt Lake.
