About this event

Join us for a meetup on Wednesday, May 25 at Domo's office in American Fork. Our speaker line-up for the night includes Earl Cahill.  We are on the lookout for another speaker, if you're interested please email us at meetups@elastic.co.

Building an awesome web site on the cheap with only Amazon's Route 53 and S3, and hosted Elasticsearch

In this talk Earl will walk through his site camerapanda.com, which takes advantage of Elasticsearch (awesomely) making Javascript and REST first class citizens, allowing Earl to make a pretty viable site with only inexpensive Route 53, S3 and hosted Elasticsearch. You may be thinking, there must be a proxy server or the like, right? Nope, there's no intermediate server. The site makes use of somewhat complex queries that rely on filtering, aggregations, full text searching, sorting and pagination to help deliver results that help users (hopefully awesomely) find cameras and lenses in a unique way.

Earl Cahill works as a Principal Engineer, leading the search team at Domo. He has worked on search projects for his most recent employers, including a highly-available, Solr Cloud-based system for Workfront, small, standalone Solr systems while at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and now an Elasticsearch system at Domo. While at BYU, Earl earned degrees in Mathematics, Honors Philosophy and Mathematics with a minor in music. In his spare time Earl enjoys videography, photography, programming, travel, games, singing, playing the piano and just relaxing with his awesome daughter.

Food, beverages, and great conversation will be provided!
