Join us for our second meetup in downtown Oakland on Wednesday, March 6! Thanks to Mailchimp for hosting us.

6:00pm: Doors open, there will be some time to mingle. Food & beverages will be provided.

6:30pm: Presentation begins with Mailchimp with time for q&a

8:00pm: Time to mingle, and we'll wrap things up around 8:30pm

Abstract:

At Mailchimp, the ability to search for campaigns and segment on contacts are critical features in the app that our customers use every day. Over time, these features became increasingly unreliable and the underlying system became hard to maintain. To fix this, we decided to replace these services with a unified backend powered by Elasticsearch.

As with many distributed systems, we faced technical challenges ranging from indexing lag and data accuracy, to backfilling data efficiently at scale. The goal of this talk is to give an overview of each of the components in our data indexing pipeline and dive deep into some of the interesting problems we encountered along the way.
