SCaLE ( www.SoCalLinuxExpo.org ) is the largest volunteer run Open Source / Free Software conference and expo in North America. Everyone interested building a stronger pro-open source community is encouraged to participate and help make SCaLE even better.

SCaLE 15x:
March 2-5 ( Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun ) 2017
Pasadena Convention Center.
300 E Green St
Pasadena, CA 91101
Expo Hours: Fri 2-6PM Sat 10AM-6PM Sun 10AM-2PM

For SCaLE 15x ( 2017 ) we've got 120+ exhibitors, 120+ presentations and workshops!
Anyone interested in Open Source / Free Software / EFF / Open Data is invited to join us. We get a number of professionals ( System engineers, Data Base Admins, Developers, Consultants, tech CxOs, tech recruiters, members of tech startups.. etc ) as well as people looking to learn more about Open Source technologies / Free Software.

With the assistance of sponsorships, volunteers, presenters willing to share, and attendees, we are able to put together an event which we feel provides a great value to everyone. As such the price of the full conference is < $100. Compare this to events which will charge you $2000-$3000 just for the conference. Granted lunches maybe included for that higher price, but we think you don't mind buying your own lunch for the cost savings. Even if you only want to join us for part of a day, we believe you will enjoy this event. Please do come join us.

Expo: ( Fri 2-6PM Sat 10AM-6PM Sun 10AM-2PM )
SCaLE would not be possible without the support of our exhibitors. Please do visit the expo hall as we work with sponsors and community groups to make the best expo possible for you.

Thursday’s and Friday's schedule -
Typically consists of special events and tracks. Your paid full conference pass typically covers these events and tracks. A few may require an additional registration and maybe a fee. ( Typically something along the lines of a workshop, please do double check ).

I highly recommend everyone to look at the schedule and attend which event(s) you find interesting.

Saturday's and Sunday's schedule -
Each year we do a request for presentations/papers and of those submitted we select a combination which we feel will make for a great set of presentations each year. Please take sometime to examine the descriptions of the presentations to assist you in selecting ones of interest.

Youth Track
Please note, we have a youth / Next Generation track on Saturday.
A great opportunity for youth to present to other youth, and help build a stronger future.

Feel free to bring your children who may be interested. Also, we are always looking to make our event better, thus if you would like to help build a stronger youth component at SCALE we are always looking for volunteers to help us.

Keynotes ( Sat and Sun at 10AM )
Unlike many other conferences, whose keynotes seem to be paid placement ads, we strive to have keynotes which are interesting to us and the linux / open source / free software community. Previous years the keynotes have been well attended. SO please do join us for the keynotes, we believe you will really enjoy them.

SCALE is about community. We have been since SCALE 1x in 2002. As such, we have a great balance of community and sponsored booths in the Expo Hall. This is a great chance to find groups and individuals who are interested in the same Open Source technology subjects are you are. The community groups typically have monthly meetings, ask them joining their meetings. We also have a number of interesting companies which have helped sponsored SCALE by getting a booth. They maybe providing products, services, hiring, or just doing community outreach. Please schedule some time to visit the booths and network.

BOFs - Birds Of a Feather
On Thur, Fri, and Sat nights after the last presentations, the meeting rooms will be available for BOFs ( Birds Of a Feather ).

These are great opportunities to form informal / round table type discussions around topics of interest. SCALE typically has a signup board onsite as well as one online for reservations of the rooms. These are also great opportunities to network with others. If you are running a user group or meetup I highly encourage you to participate and help promote your group at the BOFs. Please feel free to organize a BOF with your friends of subject matters which you are interested in.

Saturday Night
We normally have a game night so that you can unwind, network a bit more, and enjoy the evening. We even have children friendly stuff going on at night, as many people like to bring their family.

Volunteers
SCALE is always in need of and looking for more people to help us make the best community run event possible. If you would like to assist us in making a better event please volunteer. Here is the link from SCALE 14x:

Sponsors
SCALE strives to have sponsors which we believe you will find interesting. Please do check the sponsors and see what they have to offer you and your associates. We are always looking for more sponsors, so if your company or someone else you know would like to sponsor SCALE please let us know.
