Migrating to Elasticsearch at CarGurus

Abstract

Millions of user events are tracked across the CarGurus site daily. CarGurus needed a solution that would allow dealers to interact with this data in a dynamic and performant manner. We will discuss how CarGurus migrated from MongoDB to Elasticsearch, including architectural considerations and performance tuning, and we will look ahead to future uses of Elasticsearch across the CarGurus platform.

You know, for Search

Abstract

We all know that Elasticsearch is a great analytics tool, but what does it take to create a great search experience with Elasticsearch? In this talk, we will start with an overview of select Elasticsearch features such as aggregations, highlighting, and suggesters, and discuss how these features can be used to improve users' search experience. Then we will make a deep dive into the Elasticsearch query language and discuss different ways to improve search relevancy. This talk targets new users of Elasticsearch who are already familiar with basic Elasticsearch features but are confused about how to use these features to build a great search interface, as well as existing users of Elasticsearch who are struggling with implementing a great search experience with Elasticsearch.
