�Talk 1: Time is the Essence: Improving Search Effectiveness using Time-Aware Approaches to IR

Speaker: Dr. Nattiya Kanhabua, Advanced Data Scientist, Machine Learning Group, Kasikorn Labs (KBTG)

Abstract: In this talk, I will present my own academic and industrial work on search, which has been published in relevant venues, such as, ACM SIGIR, JCDL, WSDM, CIKM, ECIR, etc. Firstly, I will focus on temporal web dynamics and its implications on search or how they impact upon various components of search engines. With the growing volume of and reliance on digital documents, there is a clear need for approaches to keep relevant information accessible, available, and meaningful over time. Leveraging the time dimension in search (so-called time-ware IR approaches) impacts deeply and can improve the retrieval effectiveness. During my journey towards Data Science, I have addressed the following research questions. What are temporal web dynamics and why do they occur? When and how can we leverage the time dimension throughout the search cycle and architecture? To this end, I will present existing research resources and recent evaluation workshops organized in the field of temporal information retrieval.

�Talk 2: Metric Visualization & FlowAccount Case Study with Elasticsearch Service

Speaker: Voravit (Wicky) Srikuruwal, Founding Partner and CTO, FlowAccount

Abstract: In this talk i will talk about how we, @ FlowAccount, overcome performance bottlenecks using Elasticsearch engine and how we learnt through time to map different fields and tokenizers to make them more meaningful. I will also share our experience in how we use Aliases to switch indexes on the fly and got rid of re-indexing downtime with basic data integrity approaches. I will spend the last portion of time discussing the infrastructure that utilizes the AWS Kinesis tool and create meaningful SaSS metrics in Kibana Visualization and Timelion from the accumlated activity logs data.
