About this event

Join the Seattle Elasticsearch Meetup group at Mercedes Benz R&D office downtown Seattle for a loaded night discussing how the devOps team at MBRD terraformed the whole Elastic infrastructure in Azure and allowed dev teams to spin up a full monitoring and logging customizable experience with the click of a button. We will also have extraordinary Dmitry Polyakovsky show us all how to get things done and be productive with the ELK Stack. The night will proceed with Sharmarke Aden on Elastic-powered testing frameworks. And before the night is over...Hemant Malik and Gerry Narvaja from Elastic will be presenting and discussing the Elastic stack latest release.

Food, drinks and Elastic swag will be provided by the hosts.

Agenda:

5:45-6:15: Eat, drink and meet fellow Elastic fans and members of the local Elastic team. Learn a little about iOT and connected cars from the Mercedes Benz R&D team, and collect some cool swag while at it.

6:15-6:45: Dmitry Polyakovsky - Getting stuff done with ELK stack and Beats

Building ETL pipelines with Logstash and Ruby Monitoring prod infrastructure with Beats Managing terabytes of data in Elasticsearch

Speaker Bio: Dmitry is a Sr. Software Developer with extensive coding and cloud experience. He likes ELK stack because it's a powerful multi-purpose tool that enables him to get stuff done.

6:45-7:15: MBRD team - ELK stack infrastructure as code - Terraforming Elastic in Azure

Leveraging Terraform modules to customize any-size-any-cloud-anywhere stacks for logging and monitoring Monitoring K8's in a multi-application environment Building generic ingestion pipelines

7:15-7:35: Sharmarke Aden - Testify - testing ElasticSearch with minimal effort

In a world where Microservices and CI/CD is the norm how do we make software testing simpler? Can we make it easy to explain and understand? Can we provide developers and framework makers a common testing tool to make their lives easier? With Testify I believe we can. In this talk I will demonstrate how to test ElasticSearch with Testify with minimal effort.

Speaker Bio: Sharmarke is a software engineer who loves software craftsmanship and testing. He has worked at companies of various sizes, from startups to Fortune 50. His primary passion and focus is in backend software development. Currently, Sharmarke works at Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America where he’s building the next generation connected car cloud service. He spends some of his spare time working on Testify Project, a Java software testing tool that applies systems thinking to make software testing easy to understand, write and run. When he’s not coding, Sharmarke is playing with his infant son and trying to teach him sign language.

7:35-8:00: Hemant & Gerry (Elastic team) - Elastic Stack, new release features and announcements

8:00-8:30: Eat and drink some more, interact with the speakers and other Elastic users.
