Folks these days are very excited about the many capabilities Elasticsearch has to offer in terms of log analytics and data analysis. But don’t forget there’s a “search” in Elasticsearch. In his talk, Jose will be sharing his experience building a prototype to replace a legacy search engine at HBC, leveraging Elasticsearch’s powerful restful APIs to build user-friendly configuration tools. He will also touch on HBC’s solution to the common challenge of maintaining the index up-to-date in real time.

Jose Martinez is a Lead Software Engineer at HBC Digital. Having touched all parts of the tech stack, Jose enjoys identifying opportunities for improving legacy code, experimenting with new technologies, and building state-of-the art tools to handle day-to-day business needs. In his free time, Jose fails at trying to play the piano. When the weather gets warmer, you’ll find him up in the mountains burning rubber on his motorcycle.

Neil will be showing Ranger, an HBC Digital Node.js app that runs on the Elastic Stack. Ranger aggregates, displays and socializes performance data from HBC Digital web sites to a range of teams across the organization. Ranger leverages the Logstash http_poller plugin to aggregate and store data from New Relic. Ranger uses the Elasticsearch client for Node.js to query highlights from this data, presenting it to users in easy to view dashboards.

Neil Girardi is a Senior Front-End developer who recently celebrated his four-year anniversary with HBC Digital. He loves building apps with Node.js and enjoys skateboarding and playing with his dog, Pumpkin in his free time.
