About this event

Please join us for the second Minneapolis meetup on Wednesday October 22nd at Infinite Campus for discussion, snacks, and drinks.  Speakers Peter Kim, Solutions Architect at Elasticsearch, Todd Gardner,  President and Co-Founder of TrackJS, and Joshua Sheppard of Infinite Campus will be presenting. Special guest, Shay Banon, CTO of Elasticsearch will also be in attendance and will host a Q & A session at the end.

We'll start off with an overview of the ELK stack and Elasticsearch given by Peter Kim, Solutions Architect at Elasticsearch.  Following Peter's talk, Todd Gardner will speak on "Elasticsearch at TrackJS", and finally our lovely host, Joshua Sheppard will give a talk; check below for an abstract.

Title: ElasticSearch at TrackJS (20 min)

Abstract:
TrackJS is a real-time error tracking system that gathers events from millions of concurrent web sessions. From humble beginnings on a single server, to our ElasticSearch cluster today, we've learned a lot about throughput, performance, and reporting along the way. I'll share our journey as a company that led to ElasticSearch, how we started, and how we use it today.
TrackJS is a JavaScript error reporting service for modern web applications. We can show you the errors your customers encounter in production. We track how the user interacted with your app, the network requests made, and how the application state changes. It's kinda like an airplane's BlackBox for your webapp.

Title:  "How many people even use this tool?” - And what came after

Abstract:Infinite Campus creates software for schools districts and state departments of education. Our focus is using this software to transform K-12 education. I will tell the story of our CEO asking "How many people even use this tool?” leading to us seeking to better understand how our web applications are used, how that has matched up with the ElasticSearch/Logstash/Kibana (ELK) stack, and what we hope to do with ELK and Hadoop next.

Speaker Bio: Joshua Sheppard is a Manager of Software Development at Infinite Campus in Blaine, Minnesota. He has led teams, coached developers, and written code in the software industry for almost 15 years. He holds a Master of Science in Management of Technology from the University of Minnesota. He lives in Eden Prairie with his wife and children.

We hope to see you all there!
