About this event

Stretchy socks? Good. Stretchy Stretch Armstrong? Great. Stretchy railroad ties? Wha? Bad.

The point: Things should be what they need to be in order to do what they need to do.

UPDATE: Target VP of Architecture and tech guru, Joel Crabb, will be joining us to talk about how he selects and promotes technology within the organization. This Is Cool!

In our past meetups, we have talked a lot about when Elastic Search is awesome and should be embraced. We have also talked about when it isn't the right tool for the job. In this meetup, we'll focus on the needs we technologists have and how we evaluate (and advocate) when something is the right tool for the job.

Often, Elastic can fill a void within an organization (such as satisfying the appetite for speedy search and log analytics). So, today's organizations are very smart to have an eye on what Elastic can do. But, many times the topic comes up about using Elastic for different data and technical scenarios. In some cases, the principles upon which Elastic are based just ain't suitable for a particular need. Or, Elastic may work best alongside another solution... And vice-versa. It was suggested that this become a meetup topic.

To add some capsaicin to the convo, Elastic continues to evolve. It is doing more with different data sources (think IoT); it is adding geoprocessing features (think location services); it is adding data management features (think re-indexing and query profiling); and it is becoming a more established and integrated suite (think enterprise and high availability distributed operations).

We are grateful to Target for offering us their training facility and team again. Food and beverages will be served. We'll see you there. **ID REQUIRED - THIS IS AN AGE 21+ EVENT**
