About this event

Please kindly note: this is an in-person meetup in Auckland, New Zealand.

Hi everyone and happy new year!

How could we celebrate the beginning of 2021 better than with a new GoBridge meetup? ;)

If you’re new to Go or programming, and looking for an opportunity to learn with others and kick start your journey to becoming a fully fledged gopher, you’re at the right place!

Our goal is to empower underrepresented groups in tech and improve diversity and inclusion in the Go community. So if that sounds like something you’re keen to be a part of, you’re more than welcome to join us!

* Schedule *

- 6:00pm: How to talk to web services with Go. Sylvain Cleymans will give an introduction to APIs, HTTP and JSON.

- 6:30pm: Pizza & networking

- 7:00pm: Bring your laptop! We will have a workshop where you will learn how to consume open APIs (weather, geolocation, public holidays) to build your own cool program!

We will be there to help you and make sure you go home with at least one little program you will be proud of!

What you need to write Go code and run it on your computer (we can help you during the workshop if you have some trouble doing it at home):

A tool to write your code (we recommend VSCode): https://code.visualstudio.com/download

Go installed on your computer: https://golang.org/dl/

What you will need:

- Laptop

- Curiosity

What we will provide:

- WiFi

- Guidance

- Food

The meetup will be held at Vend (2 Nuffield Street, Newmarket, Auckland 1023 - opposite the Newmarket Train Station) on Tuesday the 26th of January from 6PM to 8PM.
