Talk 1 - Scaling the Content Repository with Elasticsearch

Abstract:

This talk would explain how to leverage Elasticsearch capabilities to make a content repository scale to the sky while still relying on standard SQL based technologies and ensuring data security and integrity. The design choices behind this hybrid Elasticsearch / PgSQL architecture will be discussed and the technical integration with Elasticsearch will be demonstrated.

Bio:

Damien Metzler is a Senior Architect, Online Services at Nuxeo since 2013. More specifically, he designed and implemented the Nuxeo Platform’s extensible REST API and now works on our Online Services infrastructure, including Nuxeo Studio. He specifically enjoys well crafted APIs, and is a devoted follower of Test-Driven Development and micro-services-based architecture.

Talk 2 - An Elastic Search use case: searching over 1.5M bounding boxes

Abstract:

Elastic Search is successfully used in several of our projects. I will present a cell biology application for an innovative medical imaging company. It analyses slides of 100,000x100,000 pixels for cell detection and it generates around 1.5M objects. Scientists can use a full-web viewer with zoom-in and dragging functions to look at the results in detail. A JSON-RPC 2 API, that needs to be fast and accurate, retrieves the objects. That's where ES offers a very powerful solution to search among a large set of bounding boxes.First, I will introduce the industrial application and the indexing process. Then, I will give a quick overview of the golang/ES library we are writing. Last but not least, I will share some performance statistical data and I will present a demo of the viewer.

Bio:

Anthony Baillard is co-founder and president of the startup in new technologies Out of Pluto. He works on projects involving technologies such as Go, noSQL databases, Elastic Search, Arduino, or Django/Python for various clients: artists, research labs or other startups in science. He has launched several projects such as the digital agency Fantom, the website Boutic Republic, or the future e-learning platform seformerdansletourisme.comOut of Pluto is currently working on goose, a Go library for Elastic Search. Anthony lives in Paris where he splits his time between work, running, art exhibitions, and bars.
